Going With Discount Window Blinds Or Not?

Dear Diva,

We’re looking to buy some new window blinds, hoping discount window blinds are possible. But my husband brought up a good point – does buying discount window blinds online translate into us ending up with a shoddy product? Do brands really matter? Help, we need some clarification here.

In most cases the old adage “You get what you pay for” is indeed correct.  But that doesn’t mean you can’t find a good deal on a good product.  No doubt you’ve noticed all the places you can purchase discount window blinds online and are wondering how to know which one to go with.  Well, here’s a couple of tips you might want to consider before looking for discount window blinds:

Discount Window Blinds

#1 – If the window blinds are off the shelf and not custom sizes, are they returnable? This is important to consider because you aren’t seeing the product up front first, so if it doesn’t turn out to be what you were expecting you will want to be able to send them back.

#2 – If the window blinds are custom-made and not returnable, can you get a sample of the fabric or material to see what it looks like in your home? Most companies offering a custom-made product will send product samples and fabric swatches because they want you to be happy with your custom-made product.

#3 – What is the warranty on the blinds? Whether custom-made or right from the shelf you will want to know what kind of a warranty they have.  Most custom-made blinds with have a 3 year warranty on fabric and mechanism.  Stock blinds with range from 90 days to 1 year depending on the manufacturer and seller.

#4 – Does brand matter?  It can, but doesn’t always. Usually brand matters when you’re getting up into the higher priced blinds like Hunter Douglas.  But when looking at discount blinds I’d focus more on the warranty and return policy.  If a brand comes up you’ve heard of and you like their product, then that’s even better.

The above 4 things to consider when purchasing discount shades.  If you follow these guidelines you will have a greater chance of being happy with what you purchased in the long run.
