To Replace or repair? That is the question when it comes to DIY bathroom renovations! Assuming you aren’t making a small bathroom into a larger one, chances are you can reuse much of what you have and save yourself a fortune in your DIY bathroom renovation. Best of all, it won’t require a second mortgage to do so.
Refinish an existing bathtub
One of the first things to look at when remodeling your bathroom, is can you improve your bathtub. Due to the factor that many times bathtubs are not that easy to simply remove and replace, sometimes refinishing the bathtub makes the most sense. But there is yet another option, that is not only easier – it can actually be cheaper. Bathtub liners. This solution works great if you’re looking for the “eco friendly bathtub” option.
New sink
The next item on the bathroom remodel, is the bathroom sink. Unlike a kitchen sink, you are going to find that replacing these sinks can be more straightforward. If you’re keeping with the same vanity cabinet, then all you would need to do is disconnect the plumbing, and pop the sink or vanity top right off.
In smaller bathrooms, you might be facing the choice of removing the sink and vanity altogether. If the entire structure is just not working, you can always consider going with a simple pedestal sink. It’s cheap, easy to install and even easier to clean.
New cabinet hardware and plumbing fixtures
The simplest and most visual difference you can make to your bathroom without a large scale remodel, are done by changing the cabinet hardware and plumbing fixtures. If you are keeping an old vanity cabinet switching out the hardware can give a modern look to the outdated. Changing out your sink and bathtub faucet also helps to modernize your bathroom! Both are an easy way to update your bathroom, without spending a ton of money.
New bathroom flooring
Whether it be vinyl or tile, a new floor for your bathroom remodel can add an instant feeling of “newness” to any bathroom. With the exception of new paint, new flooring is the most noticeable bathroom renovation that gets the instant “wow” factor from friends and family.
When considering cost, going with vinyl is usually the least expensive flooring option. Available in many shapes, styles, and sizes, vinyl starts at well under $1 a square foot. If vinyl is not for you consider tile floors. Tile also comes in many shapes and sizes and can be found in just about every style from modern to traditional!
No matter the size or scope of your next DIY bathroom renovation, if you follow these suggestions you can make your budget go further!
